Title: Robin's Egg Blue

A pair of Robin's insisted on building their nest over my daughter's stairs onto her porch. They tried on several occasions to remove the beginnings of the said nest because of the incredible mess they were making. It's certainly not that they don't like birds or that they didn't think it would be interesting to watch the Robins raise their young. It's just that they weren't really fond of it happening practically on top of their heads. The Robins were much more persistent then Kelly and Mike gave them credit for and they (the birds) eventually won out in the end. They finished up the nest in record time once the humans left them to their own devices and promptly laid three beautiful eggs. Kelly and her family were lucky enough to be able to witness the beginning life cycle of our state bird. When we had an incredibly hot period of time, they went so far as to put a fan out on the porch to circulate the air. When the tiny things looked like they were starting to go downhill from the heat wave we were having Kelly even fed the babies mashed up worms. I told her that she should really chew the worms up for them but, apparently, that is where she drew the line. All in all, it was an interesting, although a little messy, experience. And Kelly was proud to see all three fledglings leave the nest thriving.
