This is a vintage late 50's, early 60's matchbox. In a gold metal box with a raised coat of arms to embellish its top. It still has matches in it, which were never used. It is such a perfect accessory to any retro office or library.

The coats of arms is The Great Seal of the United States and is used to authenticate certain documents issued by the U.S. federal government. The Great Seal was first used publicly in 1782.

It is officially used on documents such as U.S. passports, military insignia, embassy placards, and various flags.
