The penannular brooch is the ancient Celtic ancestor of the safety pin. This one is made from brass sheet metal with a solid bronze pin. The celtic knots are hammered into the ends of the ring. The whole pin is about 2 1/2 inches across. It is strong enough to hold a wool cloak or a great kilt, yet pretty enough to decorate a shawl or scarf.
