Named for the rhyme that helped Farmers prepare for the next days weather, this pretty crochet lace shawl will keep you warm whether you are taking a sunrise or sunset stroll! It also makes a pretty wrap for cooler summer evenings.
This design takes inspiration from summer evenings on Folkestone's Mermaid Beach, and uses one set of FHY's 'Sunset Beach' pure merino DK mini skeins (8 x 25g, 200g total) available elsewhere in this shop.
This pattern is written using U.K. Crochet terms. Charts are also included.
Size: after blocking. Length 190cm, width 35cm. Tassels add an extra 18-20 cm to the length at each end.
Skill level: Medium/Intermediate. Although the techniques used are standard crochet stitches like chain, double crochet and treble crochet, the chart reading or counting stitches may be challenging for a beginner. Also includes tassel making (explained in Techniques section).
Tools Needed:
- 4mm crochet hook.
- 1 x Folkestone Harbour Yarn 'Sunset Beach' DK mini skein set (8 x 25g Double Knit
weight mini skeins. 100% merino, 75m per 25g).
- Large needle for weaving in ends.
- Scissors or snips.
Yarn Alternatives:
25g/75m each of 8 different colours of Double Knit yarn with a length to weight ratio of around 300m per 100g.
Gauge: Gauge is not overly critical in this design, and blocking will correct any misshaped stitches, but if you are aware that you crochet particularly loosely I would suggest using a smaller crochet hook, e.g. 3.5mm, otherwise you may run out of yarn. Gauge is approximately 15 stitches and 8.5 rows per 10cm square in treble stitch using a 4mm hook.
