11+ and common entrance reasoning-themed escape room game

As a teacher, tutor and parent, I’m always looking for new ways to motivate and enthuse children. In my own tutoring, I like to try to think outside the box, and recently designed a reasoning-based escape room challenge for my 11+ and common entrance students to complete during their sessions. It was an overwhelming success, and from this was born the idea of a kit enabling other students to have the same opportunity - to develop the essential skills needed for the 11+ or common entrance exam, to practise a range of reasoning questions, and to be motivated to learn whilst having fun at home.

There are so many 11+ and common entrance resources available, yet it’s rare to find any that are designed around the engagement, fun and enjoyment of the students themselves. As parents, we all know that the preparation for the 11+ and common entrance tests requires sustained dedication and motivation and we also know how difficult this can be. Tuition and preparation books and resources tend to contain activities requiring students to just sit and answer questions on repeat.

Children learn best when they’re relaxed, comfortable and having fun and enjoying the task. This escape room kit has been carefully designed to give a variety of reasoning-based questions to answer and clues to follow. It will take them on a journey around the house which includes popping balloons to reveal hidden clues inside, to discovering the code to a combination lock, fizzing a bath bomb with a secret inside, and finding a key to open up the prize, as well as more surprises and adventures beyond this! Each clue has a different reasoning questions to solve to unlock the clue.

The kit gives everything you need to quickly and easily set up the escape room challenge. This includes:

A pair of scissors which have been locked closed with a combination lock
A bath bomb with a hidden clue inside
A prize (haribo sweets) and certificate inside a locked bag (2 keys are included - one with a clue as part of the challenge and another as a spare for parents to adjust the confectionary prize if required)
A wrapped clue requiring the kits locked scissors to release it
3 clue-filled balloons
All clues necessary to complete the challenge
An optional online clue
A set-up booklet
Separate clues and answers booklet to help if required
