Details

Early 1900s, Antique Dresden Porcelain Lace Figurine Dancer in white. This tiny Dancer is hand painted and dressed in white with pink trim on the petticoat. and some gold detail on shoes and base.

Figurine is 3-1/2 inches tall, and measurement with outstretched arms is 3-1/2 inches also. Royal blue crown Dresden stamp on the bottom. The tea cup picture shows how small and delicate this figurine is compared to larger figurines on this site.

Dancer has slight damage to the dress in front (see photo) and this is the only damage to the figurine. Hands, arms, flower and rest of lace is undamaged. She still makes a lovely addition to your collections. Her price has been reduced because of this flaw.

The owner was a collector of fine china and porcelain, particularly from Germany, Prussia, England and Czechoslovakia, all her life and this is a part of her Estate. The dancer has been in a glass display cabinet since purchase.

Following is more information about this lost art. ~~~~
Porcelain Dresden lace is created by dipping Dresden lace into a porcelain solution; the porcelain lace is then attached to figurines. During the firing process, the fabric lace burns away, leaving porcelain lace in its stead. Dresden lace, both fabric and porcelain, is known for its beauty and fragility.

Dresden porcelain is a general term for the wares of a group of small factories working in the German city of Dresden from the early 1800s until the Allied bombing raids of World War II. Their wares imitated the products of the Imperial porcelain factory located in the nearby city of Meissen. Dresden and Meissen porcelain factories were also famous for using "Dresden lace" on their figurines, a process in which real lace was dipped in liquid porcelain and then attached to porcelain ball gowns or ballerinas. The result is an airy confection of frozen lace that is so fragile a touch can break it. For this reason, valuable pieces of Dresden porcelain should be protected under glass domes.

In 1872, Dresden built its own manufactory to better establish its role in porcelain production. The porcelain created in Dresden bears a blue crown marker to distinguish it from pieces made in Meissen.
