Dispatches from a small business in
Length: 160 metres
This listing is for one 50g spool of Nel 18/3 linen thread (Nm 11/3). It is sold non-waxed. Instead it has been pressed and polished so that the surface is quite hard and has a slight sheen. This makes is glide nicely through holes so that for bookbinding it can also be used non-waxed if desired.
Firmly twisted linen thread is traditionally used for bookbinding. 18/3 and 18/4 are two commonly used thicknesses. Colored linen thread is ideal for exposed bindings like Coptic bindings, and is also used where the binding thread is to blend in with the color of the pages or the covering material.
Linen thread is highly regarded for its strength and is used also in other handicraft. This particular thread is also suitable for sewing light to medium leather, or for example can be used for puppets on a string.
If desired this thread can get waxed before usage. This renderes the thread slightly sticky and makes knotting much easier. Waxing is recommended for sewing leather.
The thread is delivered on a patented spool with slits on both ends which can hold the end of the thread. A little detail that I learned to value in personal use.
The 50g spool holds approximately 160m, and the thread has a thickness of about 0.65mm.
The colour sold under the name "grey" are not really monochrome but do have a slight tone. The light grey has a blueish tint, the mid grey is slightly green (similar to an olive tone but greyer then the thread sold under that name), the dark grey has a slightly brownish tint.
Colours on a screen look different than the real thing. Also the colour varies from dye lot to dye lot such that thread bought under the same name at different times might look significantly different.
Better buy enough thread to last you through your whole project.

Love the colour. Matches perfectly many of the journals I make. This 3 ply is perfect for bookbinding, especially when lightly waxed.
This thread is very nice, with a subtle sheen. But for my leatherwork, it frays only a touch more than the au chinois, so I stick to the best. For other types of applications, the price may make this the better choice. (Nothing beats the Lin Cabel!)
Always a pleasure to buy from, very helpful and answers queries promptly. Super efficient service and posted my supplies out to me speedily so I could fullfill an urgent order my end. Always refunds shipping overages. Would highly recommend.
Great service!!! I use this yarn all the time for coptic books and it is fab.
For me it is not easy to compliment this shop over and over again in different words. This shop DESERVES it though.
