------ /\ How are our handpans made? /\ -------
- STEP 1: Formation of steel sheet
The first step is to create the domed shape of the instrument. To do this, it is necessary to proceed by several methods... The most basic (but also the most complicated in terms of work) is to hammer the sheet metal by hand. This stage represents thousands of hammer blows alone
- STEP 2: Choose the range and notes of the handpan
To find his way around, the manufacturer marks with felt or pencil the position of the notes inside the shell of the instrument. Normally, you should use magnetic patterns, slightly oval, which represent the size and shape of each note. The lowest note is placed in the middle and 7 or 8 notes are distributed all around. We get the trough of the notes either by hammering or by using a press.
- STEP 3: Tuning the Handpan
It's time to tune the handpan, an incredible skill acquired over years of experience by manufacturers. No shortcuts possible in the creation of quality handpans. To tune a note, it is necessary to meticulously hammer the area around each small hollow until the desired frequency is obtained.
- STEP 4: Assemble the top and bottom shell
By gluing the upper shell (the one that is tuned) to the lower shell, we now obtain the object that is the handpan. The bottom shell is made by following the same steps and making a hole in it that will become the opening below the handpan. Depending on the volume of air inside the handpan, and the size of the hole, a rating is obtained. This is called the "helmholtz".
------ /\ Why use stainless steel? /\ -------
Stainless steel has recently become very popular in the construction of handpans for several reasons.
First of all, a handpan made of stainless steel will usually have more sustained notes (sound fields) (they will "ring" longer). This feature promotes a more meditative and slower style of play.
The feeling of the handpan while playing is also very different. When hitting the notes, it is obvious that stainless steel is not as robust as nitride steel and is therefore less "elastic" under the hands of the musician.
The sound is brighter and softer.
------ /\ Warranty and Maintenance /\-----
We offer a 12-month warranty for every order placed in our online store. This includes repair, replacement, price reduction, refund, proposal to settle the claim.
To preserve the quality of your purchases, we advise you to maintain them regularly. Therefore, try to keep your instrument clean and dry. If possible, keep it in its case and avoid wet environments. This will prevent your instrument and its accessories from rusting.
