The latest book from the Tudor Tailor - written by Jane Huggett and Ninya Mikhaila. Edited by Jane Malcolm-Davies.

- 160 full-colour pages
- 80 historical illustrations
- Specially commissioned line drawings illustrating each pattern
- 40 patterns with comprehensive step-by-step instructions and photographs showing finished garments worn by real children
- Instructions for knitted items, including stockings, caps and mittens

The opening section provides a social history of children and babies in the 16th century, drawing on the latest research and primary sources such as ordinary people's wills and household accounts. The book contains fascinating insights into the way in which Tudor children were raised, educated and of course clothed.

The book is lavishly illustrated in full colour offering a visual feast of paintings and sculpture, beautiful line drawings by Michael Perry, and high-quality photographs of reconstructed costumes. More than 40 patterns with instructions are included for making garments for all ages: from infants to children aged 12 years, including underwear, headwear and knitted items. The book also includes a discussion of maternity wear, with illustrative photographs.

Fantastic service as always, and great to deal with such nice people. I received a quick reply to my my message, the book was sent out right away, and it arrived next day. The Tudor Child is absolutely full of informative text, detailed instructions, patterns, line art for reference, and lots of full colour photos. Another goldmine of information for Tudor costume creations! Thanks again 😊

Beautiful book, shipped quickly. Gave me a real insight into the type of clothes and fabrics used for children's clothing in Tudor times, and the patterns that I used (basic shirt, doublet and breeches) were very good. Construction instructions on each pattern are quite concise so not recommended for a beginner, although there are some additional guidelines and you don't need to do tricky things like zips! Excellent for a sewist with some experience who wants to bring some authenticity to a costume.

This book is excellent. Great scholarship, beautifully researched patterns, and really good instructions. I'm so glad there's a piece on the adaptation of dress for pregnancy too. As for the practical side, the book arrived really quickly, was well packed for the post, and makes a lovely addition to my library alongside The Tudor Tailor. It's a very nice high quality book, and should stand up well to use as a reference book. Plus there was a free postcard, which makes a great bookmark!
