Description

COVID-19 Coronavirus update - we are still open and sending orders out as normal. However, some customers have reported delays in receiving parcels due to disruptions with the postal service.

The latest book from the Tudor Tailor - written by Jane Huggett and Ninya Mikhaila. Edited by Jane Malcolm-Davies.

Featuring:

- 160 full-colour pages
- 80 historical illustrations
- Specially commissioned line drawings illustrating each pattern
- 40 patterns with comprehensive step-by-step instructions and photographs showing finished garments worn by real children
- Instructions for knitted items, including stockings, caps and mittens

The opening section provides a social history of children and babies in the 16th century, drawing on the latest research and primary sources such as ordinary people's wills and household accounts. The book contains fascinating insights into the way in which Tudor children were raised, educated and of course clothed.

The book is lavishly illustrated in full colour offering a visual feast of paintings and sculpture, beautiful line drawings by Michael Perry, and high-quality photographs of reconstructed costumes. More than 40 patterns with instructions are included for making garments for all ages: from infants to children aged 12 years, including underwear, headwear and knitted items. The book also includes a discussion of maternity wear, with illustrative photographs.

LOVE IT!! I stayed up half the night reading it, so glad there is finally a book with info on children's clothing from this time, and was pleasantly surprised to find a section about maternity as well! I now have all four books and hope there will be more to come :)

Beautiful book, shipped quickly. Gave me a real insight into the type of clothes and fabrics used for children's clothing in Tudor times, and the patterns that I used (basic shirt, doublet and breeches) were very good. Construction instructions on each pattern are quite concise so not recommended for a beginner, although there are some additional guidelines and you don't need to do tricky things like zips! Excellent for a sewist with some experience who wants to bring some authenticity to a costume.

This is a *fascinating* book on Tudor clothing for children. Pages 70 - 71 are worth the (reasonable) price of this book, as they contain clear photographs and instructions on how to swaddle a baby. What enthralled me is that the swaddled baby fell asleep. Does swaddling mimic the sense of safe enclosure found in the womb? I don't know -- but it is entertaining to see an ancient practice safely demonstrated. Buy this book, as it's already a collector's item! 10/10!

These books arrived nearly a week before I was allowed to leave a review, so obviously overseas shipping time is impressive! Chock full of historical information and excellent advice. Will need to pull out the reading glasses, but this is a small price. Thank you so much! Hope to purchase more items in future.
