Old Perithia is Corfu's Oldest Village and offers a glimpse at the past as you travel back in time to the days of pirate attacks on the island and a history that's been recorded since 1357. Once one of the wealthiest mountain villages on the island, it was all but abandoned in the 1960s except for a few locals. Nature reclaimed it and today you get to see houses of Venetian architectural origin set amongst stunning views and amazing walks through unspoilt meadows of flowers, butterflies, millions of happy bees and you'll witness its gentle revival as a couple took a leap of faith in 2010 and restored three properties, then set about cleaning and promoting the village. 2021 Travellers' Choice Award Winner for leading Attraction on the island it's now a popular spot for day trippers, walkers and wildlife enthusiasts. There are 5 places to eat, a local honey man [Vasilis] and, as a protected area of natural beauty, incredibly fresh air and nature at its best. Enjoy!
Mark Hendriksen, the author, is one of the couple who bought and restored the three houses, turning them into the island's first ever b&b and acting as the catalyst to the village's gentle journey back to life. As seen on ITV's 'Greek Island's with Julia Bradbury' their land appeared in the BBC's 'Adriatic Gardens with Monty Don, and they have achieved a number of press and media articles over the subsequent years 2010-2022, Mark & his wife Saskia sold the b&b back in 2021 but continue to manage the pr for the village www.old-perithia.com and own the iconic land adjacent to the Old School / Skordilis Mansions and Arch.
