This is a fantastic rare large vase, designed by August Heissner, Heissner Keramik, Gräfenroda, East Germany circa 1960s.

An unusual sculptural space age form, tall and tapered with double decorative handles on the neck and a squared off rim. With a pitted textured surface, glazed in handpainted washes of foaming 'Fat Lava' grey and blue. There is an incised graphic geometric motif all around the base and top picked out in a contrasting white.

Would make a fantastic addition to any collection of German or Fat Lava pottery and would complement any retro, vintage, 1960s, midcentury, modernist, brutalist, minimalist or contemporary interior.

In excellent condition. Unmarked but a known design.
