HoHoHo - overlay mosaic crochet pattern. Make a Christmas blanket, table runner and placemats.

Sooo … I set out with an idea to create a couple of designs that could be mixed and matched with my 2020 winter CAL Letitia’s Holiday … but I got a little carried away!

HoHoHo is worked using the overlay mosaic crochet technique, and finished off with a simple envelope border to hide the loose ends.

If you are unfamiliar with mosaic crochet or the envelope border, don’t worry, they are much easier to do than they look, and full written instructions are provided, along with lots of helpful photos, making this pattern suitable even for total beginners to mosaic crochet (you will just need to know how to make the basic crochet sts).

The pattern also includes separate charts (part 1) or written instructions (part 3) for left-handers.

To simplify the abbreviations, and avoid the need for separate UK and US versions, the pattern is written in ’Universal’ terms (which will be familiar to those of you who have made Flora’s Fauna or my Jacquard Temperature Blanket (I originally developed this notation for this pattern).

The pattern is written for a small / lap blanket size (approximately 92cm x 130cm), but can easily be extended by adding extra 48-stitch repeats.
The length can be extended by repeating some of the panels, or by mixing in some of the parts of Letitia’s Holiday, and indeed two of my testers did just that… you can see photos of Jane and Caroline’s beautiful blankets on this listing, and I have included an additional file explaining how they made theirs, just in case you want to do the same

And for those of you that would rather do something a little smaller, the pattern also includes instructions for making a table runner and four coordinating placemats.

The 48-stitch repeat also makes HoHoHo easy to combine with many of my other mosaic crochet designs, including Flora’s Fauna, Meow!, Woof!, March Hare, Woodland Trail and Letitia’s Garden.
