In Hope's debut poetry novel she explores the themes of chronic illness and isolation, more prevalent in recent years than ever before,
'You know that feeling? When you swallow your tears as they crawl down your throat till you choke on all the what ifs and should haves. The way the salt tastes like the sea, the waves that caressed you of childhood and abandoned playgrounds. When your face is puffy but somehow your eyes still sparkle with a forgotten promise. The one you made to yourself at 16, to never get hurt again. All those feelings bottled into tears that take the years from your face and replace them with something juvenile and glistening. Coming back up your throat till they feel like words that arrange themselves on fresh pages, all the pieces you left untethered.

It feels kind of like hiccups.’
