Sitting on your sheepskin for prolonged periods will cause matting in your sheepskin, and appropriate brushing will be required to maintain the quality in your rug. A dog comb or rug brush is perfect for maintaining.
It is advisable to display your sheepskin in your home away from direct light sources. Direct sunlight exposure will compromise the tanning and dying process of the rug causing colour changes and also reducing natural oils within the skin that keep your rug supple.
Due to the natural properties of the skin we would recommend avoiding harsh chemicals or machine washing.
Regularly brushing through your rug to remove dust and dirt particles and to revive the "fluffiness" of the wool will help keep your rug looking great.
We would recommend spot cleaning your rug if needed using a wool & leather safe product. Ensuring not to saturate the rug and allowing to dry naturally away from any direct source of heat or sunlight.
If more intensive cleaning is needed we would recommend you seek professional advice from a specialist leather and sheepskin cleaner. We would suggest using a Siloxane Green Earth method.
Unfortunately we can never guarantee how every skin will handle a more intensive cleaning process.
