This panoramic drawing of London, looking west, north and east from the public viewing gallery of the Shard Tower, 800ft above ground level, was inspired by historic panoramas of the city by 17th century artists including Hollar, Visscher, Wyngaerde and others.

The design features a decorative border and title cartouche with an index of eighty well-known landmarks featured in the drawing which are labelled numerically, and several locations are also labelled with text to orientate the viewer.

The composition is based on photographs I took from the viewing gallery in February 2013 and was drawn freehand with a fineliner pen on Bristol Board and took around 4 months to complete. I also referred to the interactive panorama on the Guardian newspaper website to aid me with the finer detail.
