Travel back to the 1980's with this original 'Bread Bin' style Commodore 64 converted to work as a fully functional USB keyboard with a Rasperry Pi installed within.

Inside I have a custom keyboard controller board which transforms the C64's keyboard into a USB keyboard. The keyboard is connected to a Raspberry Pi 3, with its HDMI port, LAN and USB ports accessible externally. I can customise the layout to your requirements, and have the SD card externally accessible or the audio and composite video instead, additional USB ports, USB joystick ports, or a number of other options. Contact me or click the 'request a custom order' above to discuss the options further.

The Commodore 64 keyboard contains most of the keys and symbols you need day to day use, some of them are just in different places. Keyboard mapping can be tricky, so by default, the keyboard controller sends appropriate signals to the PC to match whatever is printed on the keycaps (which may not be the same as a modern keyboard, the symbols above the numbers for example). This is the easiest, 'plug in and go' option.

Optionally, I can fit a push button on the rear of the case which changes mode to one where the keys work so they press the right keys for the Vice Commodore 64 emulator. See http://blog.tynemouthsoftware.co.uk/2014/08/commodore-64-usb-keyboard-with-mode.html for more details

Inside is the new Raspberry Pi 3 with built in wifi, this is fitted with a 16GB microSD card preloaded with Raspian, but let me know if you would prefer something different reloaded, such as RetroPie. An official Raspberry Pi power supply is included.

I repair and refurbish a lot of classic 1980's computers, but every now and then, I get ones that cannot be economically repaired. This is a way of giving them a new life. I only make these from dead computers, no working computers were harmed in the making of these keyboards!

Please note, the original units are 30+ years old, so there may be the odd mark or scratch, but nothing too bad.

Other computers are listed in my shop, and I hope to list more in the future, please contact me for further information or requests.
