The Tui SP (named after a New Zealand native songbird) is a handcrafted penny whistle in the key of G major. The SP is the SPecial version of the Tui (AKA St Patrick), the special features include
* A main custom made fibre-glass tuning slide to alter the overall pitch about 50 cents each way.
* A secondary tuning slide to improve the intonation if the Tui SP is tuned to 432 Hz.
* A thumb tone-hole for an F#, to save cross-fingering or half holing this note.
* A pinky tone-hole to obtain a G# without half holing the A tone-hole.
* Offset on the pinky hole to make it reachable.
* The pinky tone-hole is doubled up to allow for LH or RH players (one hole closed with a sticker or by other means).
* The bell section can be rotated to optimize the position of the two lowest tone-holes.
* The small bell helps improve the volume of the lower notes of each octave compared to the higher notes.
The Tui SP is an alto whistle (the G above middle C) lower than D whistles like the Clarke or Feadog.
* A curved lip against which the air is directed like a classical flute, rather than a straight one, giving a distinctive mellow and slightly 'breathy' tone.
* Each whistle is carefully hand tuned to concert pitch A=440Hz, within the limits of variable air temperature and how hard you blow.
* Range of at least two octaves, G4 to F#6.
* My whistles have a very comfortable mouthpiece shape compared to many PVC or aluminium whistles.

Besides the key of G, the whistle is easily played in Dorian mode (the scale starting on A), in C major and A minor by using the tumb-hole, in D major and B minor (see chart for the C#) and of course Em.
