Travel back to the 1980's with this Atari 65XE converted to work as a fully functional USB keyboard. Integrated inside is a Raspberry Pi 3, USB hub and USB joystick controller.

Inside I have a custom keyboard controller board which transforms the 65XEs keyboard into a USB keyboard. This will work anywhere a normal USB keyboard would, most laptop and desktop PCs, some tablets, the Raspberry Pi etc.. No software is required to run on the PC end, just plug in and go.

The Atari 65XE keyboard contains most of the keys and symbols you need day to day use, some of them are just in different places. The keyboard controller sends appropriate signals to the PC to match whatever is printed on the keycaps. Use shift and control in combination with some of the keys to get additional symbols. The top five keys are mapped as function keys.

There is also a dual USB joystick controller which allows you to use original Atari (or Commodore) joysticks as USB joysticks with emulators and things like the Retro Pie menu.

There are four external USB ports to connect a mouse etc. to the rear of the Atari. The Raspberry Pi HDMI and composite video / audio ports are also externally accessible. Power is connected via microUSB connector using the supplied official Raspberry Pi power supply unit.

The Pi is supplied with a 16GB microSD card preinstalled with the latest version of Raspian.

I repair and refurbish a lot of classic 1980's computers, but every now and then, I get ones that cannot be repaired. This is a way of giving them a new life. I only make these from dead computers, no working computers were harmed in the making of these keyboards!

Please note, the original units are 30 odd years old, so there may be the odd mark or scratch, but nothing too bad.

Other computers are listed in my shop, and I hope to list more in the future, please contact me for further information or requests.
