Travel back to the 1980's with this Texas Instruments TI99/4A converted to work as a fully functional USB keyboard.

Inside I have a custom keyboard controller board which transforms the TI99/4As keyboard into a USB keyboard. This will work anywhere a normal USB keyboard would, most laptop and desktop PCs, some tablets, the Raspberry Pi etc.. No software is required to run on the PC end, just plug in and go.

There is sufficient space inside to install a Raspberry Pi if you are so inclined, although some additional holes would have to be drilled for the connectors as the TI99/4A was pretty low on external connectors.

The TI99/4A keyboard contains many of the keys and symbols you need day to day use, some of them are just in different places. Keyboard mapping can be tricky, so by default, the keyboard controller sends appropriate signals to the PC to match whatever is printed on the keycaps (which may not be the same as a modern keyboard, the symbols above the numbers for example). This is the easiest, plug in a go option.

I can also supply it in a mode with no mapping, which sends through the keys direct. This is best if you plan to remap the keys yourself in software, or are running an emulator. Finally, you can choose to have the keys mapped however you like for a small surcharge, just click the 'Request a custom order' link above and tell me what you want the keys to do!

I repair and refurbish a lot of classic 1980's computers, but every now and then, I get ones that cannot be repaired. This is a way of giving them a new life. I only make these from dead computers, no working computers were harmed in the making of these keyboards!

Please note, the original units are 30 odd years old, so there may be the odd mark or scratch, but nothing too bad.

Other computers are listed in my shop, and I hope to list more in the future, please contact me for further information or requests.
