A poster taken from a three colour lino and letterpress print, showing the iconic Windmill Hill in Hitchin, England, this is a unique piece of artwork, whether you love the style of these traditional yet modern prints or have special memories of the town.

This print shows the view from Hermitage Road leading up to the hill. It used to be known as Rawlings Hill, named after the owner of the mill which stood at the top of the hill, but when the mill burnt down in 1875 the hill became known as Windmill Hill. A wealthy quaker banker called Frederic Seebohm had a large house on Bancroft, known as the Hermitage. He gave part of his back garden to form Hermitage Road in 1875- roughly the same time the windmill on Rawlings Hill burnt down. Seebohm aquired the land and built the Hitchin Girls’ Grammar School at the top of Windmill Hill in 1907 and then his two daughters donated the rest of the hill to the people of Hitchin in 1921. The Dell, as mentioned in the text, is to the left of the hill.

Now used by people of Hitchin and visitors for sunbathing in fine weather and sledging in the winter, and remembered (and still used) by many Hitchin Girls and Hitchin Boys school students as a meeting place, the hill is a lovely green space with the best views in town.

Reviving the traditional techniques of linocutting, I wanted to celebrate my favourite parts of the town I was brought up in by making a series of beautiful prints. The original prints were made from drawings which I transferred to lino, and made using the reduction technique in three or four colours. Finished with lettering hand printed using vintage letterpress type, the original prints for the Windmill Hill summer print were limited to a run of 10. I hope they will resonate with others who love the town too, as well as those who appreciate the unique nature of a linocut print.

The print sold in this listing is a high quality digital reproduction of the original artwork on 300gsm card, made as an A3 or A4 poster. It will be sent with a cardboard backing in a cellophane sleeve.

After seeing Kim's exhibition in Hitchin I knew I had to have one of her prints!
She was so kind to send me an original after a mixup with my order, and I am so chuffed with it! Both of her prints are absolutely gorgeous and I'm so exstatic to show them off in my home! Thank you again Kim!

My friend and I had a fantastic morning on the workshop. We learnt new skills with guidance from Kim, and had so much fun making our own linocut prints. We would definitely like to do another workshop in the future.
