Wall Decor - Wheat Weaving - Corn Dolly - Rustic - Brighid's Cross, Imbolc, Candlemas, Irish, goddess symbol, folk art: Adapted from an older solar symbol representing the Celtic fire goddess Brighid. This version is attributed to the 6th century Irish abbess Brighid of Kildare, who was later canonized. She is one of the patron saints of Ireland, and her cross is found throughout the land. From Blue Moon WheatWorks to you, for your Candlemas/Imbolc altar.

Approx. 5" tall x 5" wide. Includes flax thread hanger.

THE STORY OF WHEAT WEAVING: This is a tradition as old as the cultivation of wheat itself. Each harvest, gleanings of wheat from the last crop of the year are brought inside for the winter. These are woven into “corn dollies”, figures where the spirit of the wheat can live until spring when they are sowed back into the soil to continue the growing cycle.

All Wheat Weavings are handcrafted, using methods passed down through generations of Weavers. Some of the designs have been made for hundreds of years. NOTE: Like all dried plants, wheat is brittle. Some minor shedding of husks and kernels is normal with handling. Once in its place, the item will last for years with only an occasional dusting.
