You will need cloth of three-four ornament types in one tone but you can also use single-toned cloth.
Buttons are used for eye and the face can be embroided with thread.
This master class includes pattern, photos and description of making a cat.

I hadn't read the description clearly, so was a bit surprised to find the pattern for a much smaller cat than I had expected, but it was easy for me to scan and enlarge and I'm very happy that I now have both sizes to make up.
