  • Handmade
  • Materials: clay, willow, wood, wicker, daub, cob

Historically a wicker hive was protected from the weather with a clay, horsehair and straw mix called daub. This also protected the bees from the elements. The Daub used in these replicas are created using a refined mix similar to that used on the Celtic Roundhouses. Giving a smoother appearance.

This Hive is made to order and the design can be altered slightly on request. You can decide on a handle or, where the entrance should be. Also, the colour of the clay can be altered to to brown or black.

A record can be sent to you hive order being made at no extra cost. I am happy to assist with any queries.

An example of the Ecolistic Artworks woven willow structure that is underneath the protective Daub can be seen in main image or, please take a look at the wicker Alveary listing in this shop.

The process of covering the Hive is shown up above. The Willow and, clay are collected from our beautiful woodland in Wales, UK. The hive must be protected from the elements if placed outdoors in a sheltered area and ideally brought in over the winter for it to last longer. It will be sent with a small amount of clay daub for any cracks that may appear over time.

A record can be sent to you hive order being made at no extra cost. I am happy to assist with any queries.

The hives have all being researched in order to create a product that looks like an authentic hive of that period. Bee-Skeps (Straw Hives) are also available in this shop along with their history.

I am happy to assist with any queries and custom orders.
