Description

A poker-size version of my gorgeous Fiery Wands Tarot deck: these cards measure 2.48'' × 3.46'' (63mm × 88mm). The images come totally from my own hand-painted artwork, but the deck has been professionally printed, by printers who offer up to 90 poker-size cards for the same price as 78. I have only recently discovered this! This now means that I can offer 12 extra bonus cards for the same price as before.

The original Major Arcana has these three variations from the Rider-Waite deck:
* Instead of the Magician, the Juggler with his fiery torches
* Instead of the High Priestess, Juno with dagger, spear and peacock... but you could see her as a high priestess
* Instead of the Hierophant, Jupiter with thunderbolt and eagle

These variations are inspired by the old medieval deck, the Tarot of Besançon, which has "The Juggler", "Juno" and "Jupiter" as the first, second and fifth cards. I chose that deck as a model because Besançon is a special place for me - it was the destination of my very first ever journey to a foreign country at the age of 17 - and it seemed as if it was meant to be.

However, I later painted a Magician for the Airy Wands variation of my deck, and this is now included in this version of the Fiery Wands Tarot as well, meaning that there are 79 "core" cards in the deck.

The four illustrated suits of the core Minor Arcana, with Wands corresponding to Fire and Swords to Air, are very loosely based on the classic designs by A.E. Waite, but aiming at a less sexist approach. I do not like A.E. Waite's blindfolded and helpless women. In my Eight of Swords, for example, the woman stands staring clear-eyed ahead, with calm dignity, and a sense of hidden strength that might lead her to break her bonds.

As well as the 79 core cards, there are 11 bonus cards available. I am offering three options for these:

Option 1: Airy Wands selection

Court cards and a selection of pip cards from the suits of Wands and Swords in a variation where Wands correspond to Air and Swords to Fire.

Option 2: Numeric pip cards selection

The first version of my Fiery Wands Tarot had purely "numeric" or "unillustrated" pip cards, decorated with delightful tiny animals, birds, fish, trees, flowers, rainbows, clouds and flames. The first edition of the deck was beautiful, even though less meaningful than the illustrated version, and this option includes a selection of my own personal favourites from the original pip cards.

Option 3: Art cards selection

A set of gorgeous images from my paintings over the years: golden autumn trees, cats and roses, peacocks, elephants, strange "bird people" with human heads... and more.

If you would like a different variation on these options, feel free to contact me: I am happy to create a custom selection for you.

You can also choose your preferred back design from the designs that I offer: Smiling Suns, Mysterious Moons, Narcissi on Green, Sunflowers on Indigo, Bird People and Magical Chequers. Just page through the images of the deck, and you will come to an image of the designs available.

Please note that this product is made to order, and there may be as much as 2-3 weeks before it is ready to ship - but this is a maximum.
