Sydenham flourished alongside the victorian Crystal Palace (1854-1936). As well as bordering the Crystal Palace Park, Sydenham contains a good number of parks including Mayow Park & Sydenham Wells Park.

The Crystal Palace television transmitter mast - also depicted in the screen print - was completed in 1956 and was once the highest point in London.
