Wood engraving is a very exacting craft. I only produce a wood engraving about once a year. This will never make me an expert – but I am very happy that each one is that bit better than the previous.

The challenge I set myself for this little Wren was to create a variety of different and lively cut marks on the tiny bit of wood. This engraving was carved out of an expensive and highly polished piece of English Box Wood. The block of wood is only a couple of inches big. I had to print it very careful so not to crush it in my ¾ tonne, 180 year old Albion press. I printed it in a very dark brown, which reads as a warm black on the soft white paper. I use oil based relief ink printed on 300gram Hahnemule paper.

Each print is hand pulled by me.
This is a limited edition print and is signed, titled and numbered in pencil.

This artwork was conceived and created solely as an original fine art print. Unlike a gicleé print or any other computer print out, none of my prints are reproductions of a pre-existing painting or drawing .

I like to use top quality paper. I will therefore only ship my prints flat and protected with card - never rolled.
