Purple and Green Yin Yang Earrings –Cloisonné & Champlevé Enamels on Fine Silver with Sterling Ear Wires

These earrings are bright and bold! The vibrant bright chartreuse compartments of color offset the rich velvety purple enamels. They are sassy and fun, and also easy to wear.

Materials: Champlevé & cloisonné Enamels on Fine silver.

Size: 1.2” long x .5” wide

All my jewelry is handmade by me in my studio in beautiful Raleigh, North Carolina.

Did you know that enamels are melted glass?

Yes! It's true... To create this lovely pair of earrings, I first fabricated the silver base out of sheets of fine silver. The lines of the design are actually fine silver wires that I meticulously bent by hand (and tweezers) into the shapes you see. Then I placed granules of ground up glass (enamels) in between the wires and melted them in the kiln. There are as many as 20 layers of glass in each individual piece! After I've added all the layers of glass, I carefully grind and polish it until it sparkles!

Champlevé: pronounced Shamp-lee-VAY
is the process of inlaying the colored glass enamels directly into a solid piece of silver, so there’s no need for a separate setting.

Cloisonné: pronounced Cloy-ZEE-nay! (always best when said with a flourish!)
is the process of using delicate silver or gold wires to create drawing lines that separate the different bits of colored enamel.

Enamels are my passion.

I was born and raised in Cleveland, Ohio. I graduated from Rhode Island School of Design in 1992 with a degree in illustration. I currently reside in Raleigh, North Carolina and have a wonderful studio at Artspace.

Before becoming involved in jewelry crafting, I spent many years making designs in leaded glass. I was an active member of the Ant farm, a local artists cooperative for several years, and currently have a studio at Artspace in downtown Raleigh.

I have always loved incorporating bright color and light into my work, so when I discovered the beauty of cloisonné enamel, I was hooked. My work incorporates color, light, and balance- be it abstract or figurative. I'm influenced by all the gorgeous jewelry of the past, but try to give it a modern twist.

I love crafting beautiful objects to wear and adore, and I hope you will enjoy owning them as much as I enjoy making them. If you are interested in commissioning a unique piece of wearable art, please feel free to contact me.

I ship to anywhere in the United States. All domestic orders under $250 are a flat rate of $12.95. Orders above $250 will also include the commiserate insurance, which will be noted in the shipping cost for that item.

Not only did I receive the complete kit with very clear instructions, but also, the supplier included some extra enamel and an abundance of wire. All with a smiley face drawn on the bag! Very Much appreciated!!! Shipped very quickly even though she was out of town when I ordered!! (As an aside her Enamel Jewelry is beautiful!!)

This is a great introductory kit for someone who doesn’t want to buy all components individually. This was my first enameled project ever, and the kit included most of what I needed to get started. The design of the project with instructions, the coordinated colors, and the fact that the artist has video tutorials available make this kit a very good value. My earrings aren’t perfect, but I think it’s a good result for a first try thanks to this kit.
