Description

CONTENTS:

Darran Anderson (Ireland) | The Birds of South Africa
> A short story, set in Venice, from the author of the fantastic 'Imaginary Cities'.

Liz Bassett (Sheffield / Scotland) | Poetry
> An expertly crafted set of beautiful poems about, amongst other things, being a kid. Considered and elegant writing.

Jake Mike Boy (Oakland / Sweden) | What, You've Never Seen P.T.S.D in the Hood Before?
> A slamming short story from an energetic young voice, about a big brother returning from war overseas. Funny and brutal.

Zoë Meager (New Zealand) | The Find
> A very short and joyful story about natural science and a woman archaeologist.

Emma Rault (The Netherlands / UK) | Love in the Time of the Wall
> An honest and uplifting creative non-fiction essay about falling in love across borders in the time of Trump.

Rushika Wick (Sri-Lanka / London) | Poetry
> A fun, raging and incandescent set of poems. Wick's love of language is clear and this collection features what could be the feminist anthem of the year.

Ben Gallagher (Canada) | Poetry
> These are magical poems about the power of the imagination and the loneliness and absurdity of social media, amongst other things. Some funny, some sad, all honest and representative of personal experiences we all have.

ABOUT THE PROJECT:
Word-o-Mat is an indie publisher of new, short writing plus a zine vending machine. We publish short stories and poems from different writers around the world in beautiful, handmade tiny books (zines) 5x7cm.

The books are cut, folded, glued and bound by hand using a Singer sewing machine.

Each Edition is a collection of six books, each containing the work of a different author, collected inside a handmade box. The boxes look like cigarette boxes because we also sell them from a vintage cigarette vending machine in Glasgow, Scotland.

We wanted to make an indie publisher of new short writing that supports artists by focusing on an amazing product and user experience design. We wanted to publish offline only. We wanted to put the care and dedication into making these books that the writers put into writing them. Analogue ahoy.
