Description

Sutton Hoo Pattern, Easy to assemble kit with parts prepared, soundboard matched to body , ready for final sanding, gluing and varnishing.

Video of making this kit with the New wooden peg option is here:
https://youtu.be/V_I89w4_CMA

A perfect introduction to this ancient instrument. Included also is a copy of my Lyre making CD for extra inspiration to help continue you on your Lyre making Journey.

Kits made to order just 28 days to delivery

These Lyre kits have the Lyre body in maple routed out of the solid and the outer profile shaped out of one piece of wood with the step to receive the soundboard.

My original kits in 2009/10 had roughly sawn soundboards but now the Soundboard is thicknessed to size, all that is needed is final sanding, I am also providing a pre-mixed animal glue that gives longer time to glue and is easier to clamp. (just needs warming in a cup of hot water)

My old Video series was done on youtube to show how the kit goes together and is still mostly applicable:

Gluing the soundboard: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sTz_uzEwi18
Shaping the head(optional) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zCqsZuNQFU4
varnish: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b_8vjDT8md8
Fitting zither pegs: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T9Dkb-Q1Zx8&t=48s
Final Setup: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uUgdpeUNH_o
Playing: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QHA5SvmJyJM

example of Lyre kit instrument: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O9d_gC11AWE

The maple soundboard then need gluing and to complete the Lyre you will need to do the final shaping of the string arm /taper and endpin.

The wood used on the soundboard is from my own stock and is quartersawn maple

Kit Contents:
Maple routed body
Quartersawn Maple top, pre-routed and shaped
Tailpiece
String set
Pre-made bridge
Lyre-CD of instructions
Zither pins and key or the optional wood peg upgrade
Notes
Animal glue

The string spacings are taken from the sutton hoo model I make, with metal zither pins supplied for ease of use and function. Metal tapered harp pins I use on my standard instruments or wooden pegs are in the drop down menu, these are pre-fitted for you.

The lyre kits are supplied with FC nylon strings, nylon tailgut with dowel tailpiece and a tuning key.

**Gut strings and tailpiece can be ordered as an option in the drop down menu

Animal glue is included in the kit, Either dried pearls or the pre-made version.

(To complete the kit you will need sanding papers and some kind of Varnish which are supplied, but the instruction leaflet will supply details. ) Animal glue can be clamped easily with Tape but I can also provide a link to simple clamps that can be made.

This kit is a perfect lyre for a first project and for customization, possibly adding your own soundboard pins and mounts as shown on the lyre making Disc.

I can also pre-make these lyres and sell them as plain Student models £POA
