Hand knit a pair of cosy fair isle mitts with this simple yet striking mitten knitting pattern. This fingerless mitts design is ideal for keeping your hands warm on chillier Autumn and Winter days, while leaving your fingers free to manage your phone, purse, coat buttons and dog leads.

Knitted in the round, the cuff is in rib and the simple fairisle pattern repeats are worked, in knit, from a colour knitting chart. The thumb uses basic directional increases (instructions given) to create the thumb gusset. Knitted to the tension stated in the pattern, these delightful mitts have a 21cm (8 1/4inch) circumference at their widest point above the thumb web and fit an average sized adult female hand.

This cute pattern would make a great project for those wishing to practice their two colour stranded colour work technique in the round, as well as providing a relaxing knit for more advanced knitters.

The mitts are worked in six colours of Rowan Felted Tweed DK and use less than a 50g/175m ball of each. One ball of each colour was sufficient to create my sample mitts as shown in the photographs here, as well as the Hill Head Snood pattern (also listed in this shop) so would make a great accessories set for yourself or a delightful Christmas gift idea. This pattern would also be an ideal stash buster for 4 ply (Sport weight) yarn.

These fairisle mitts are part of a mini accessories collection inspired by the colours and treasures found at Hill Head, my favourite coastal dog walk. The Hill Head Snood and Hill Head Beanie are also part of this collection.

Materials:
• one 50g (175m/191yds) ball each of Rowan Felted Tweed DK in shades 170, 196, 193, 157, 185, 197.
• a set each of double pointed needles in sizes 2.75mm and 3mm (US 2 and 3) or alternative size to obtain required tension.
• Three stitch markers and a tapestry needle.

Tension:
28sts and 34rounds to 10cm using 3mm needles in knit over the fairisle chart.

All my patterns are written in English using standard UK knitting terminology. The colour work section of the pattern is worked from a colour knitting chart.

This pdf pattern is available to you for immediate download. Once payment has been confirmed you will receive an e mail with a download link.
