My Student model pictured (same as the one on display at the Welsh Museum of folk music) is built in two sections from maple, With a figured maple body like a violin and plain maple head section joined.

Carved from solid models based on the Aberystwyth Library (Heyward) Crwth are also available to order, see drop down menu>

This is my Student copy of the Welsh Folk Museum Crwth:

This largest of the surviving instruments is based on the Instrument by Richard Evans of 1742 in the Welsh Folk Museum.
This example, pictured below is not carved out of a block of timber like the original but built up in baroque violin fashion, with a separate body and arm/head. My version has binding/purfling to the soundboard edge.

With both of these crwth models, the fingerboards are flat and the strings are parallel with the body as on the original, Stringing can be either all plain gut in the medieval fashion or baroque stringing which uses wound wire on the thicker strings.

Silver wound Thomastic strings with a synthetic core can also be used with success on these

Gut Strung Heyward model:

Fingerboard on traditional models is flat and set up with Gg cC D d tuning for bardic playing

But can be set up also with AD ADad with slight curved bridge/fingerboard tuning for medieval performances like Jean-Luc Lenoir here:

Instruments come with handmade hardcase of Pine/Plywood and fixed arch bow included.

I bought a Saxon lyre. And it came with metal strings, I didn't like them. So I bought these strings. They sound great!

The strings are just as described, beautifully packaged, and arrived promptly from the UK. Mr. King is very helpful with any and all questions I've had regarding strings, building kanteles, everything I've asked related to stringed instruments. I've not only bought the strings but have bought his plans for building my own kanteles of different sizes. They are easily read and understood. I highly recommend his products. Excellent service.

I ordered the 6 string lyre strings a while back, and didn't receive them (yay for global pandemics), so I contacted Mr. King. Since he was sending them out of his own pocket, I decided to purchase a set of kravik strings as well since I had planned on building one after the Anglo Saxon style lyre was complete. I'm blown away by how courteous and helpful he's been since the beginning, and I wish I could give more stars on the rating. I can finally finish my lyre and get to playing. Thank you again
