Fil Au Chinois Lin Cable No. 432, 50g Spool of French Corded Waxed Linen Thread, (medium thickness), approximately 200m
Dispatches from a small business in
Materials: linen, beeswax, potato starch
Length: 200 metres
This listing is for one 50g spool of corded french waxed linen thread, on a plastic spool like you can see in the pictures. Being corded means it has been twisted twice: it is made of three strands each of which consists of three strands. Cabling increases the resistance, giving a nicely rounded thread.
I carry three thicknesses, this listing here is for the threads No. 432 which has a diameter of approximately 0.6mm.
If you are looking for something ticker, have a look at my listing of No. 332 (approx. 0.8mm diameter)
or for something thinner check out the No. 632 lin cable (approx. 0.5mm diameter)
and if you need something even thinner, why not go for the Fil Au Chinois, Lin Retors No. 40 (approx. 0.4mm diameter)
According to the manufacturer, the No. 432 thread is 0.63mm thick which gives it about the same thickness as NeL 18/3 thread. One spool has approximately 200 meter of thread or 215 yards (but the thread is sold by weight, and appearance and length can vary slightly).
The brand Fil Au Chinois was first registered in 1847 in Lille and the thread is still produced in France. The name dates back to that period in France when anything Oriental was fashionable. This product does not come from China.
Linen thread is especially strong, and abrasion resistant. This thread here is very slightly waxed. This makes it easier to use and gives it a pleasant sheen. It is not sticky at all - other than the heavily waxed Irish linen thread.
This thread can be used everywhere where a strong thread is needed, including fine leatherworks, beading, bookbinding, puppets on strings, knotting, and many more.
Colors viewed on a screen look different than the real thing, the photos in this listing are only for reference.
I had customers had difficulties with colours "natural" and "ecru". The natural is not completely high white, but a neutral tone, whereas the ecru is a warm shade, like a very light caramel.
The exact shade of each colour varies from dye lot to dye lot.

Super fast and friendly service, as normal from this supplier. The Lin Cable thread is really excellent. Very even in thickness and does not fray even with long stitching runs through very thick ( 7mm) layered leather. Exactly what I was looking for.
This is a really good quality linen thread, that is treated with a micro-cristalline wax so it has a sheen and is very smooth. Great selection of colours and lots of thread on the spool. Thanks to Hilke for taking a lot of trouble over my order, as I had some special delivery instructions. It arrived safely, well packaged as always and with a little extra "something" inside - many thanks!
2nd purchase from Hilke and I am sure there will be many more. Great to have found a UK supplier of my favourite thread.
Quick shipping and great prices. Definately added to my regular supplier list.
