Hand printed lion card designed and made by Sarah Appleton.
This listing is for one card + envelope; the card measures 5" x 7" with a 4" diameter circular print of a lion in yellow and red. Each card is blank inside and the print is signed on the front by the artist for an extra special touch.
I have really enjoyed creating these cards for you, first I designed the illustrative lion face by drawing it out in pencil. Once I was happy with my design, I transferred the pattern onto 2 pieces of lino (one for the background and one for the foreground). Then I used lino cutting tools to carve the design out and tested it on paper. When I was happy with the final print, I hand inked the background yellow colour first using specialised printing inks and a roller, then printed it using a mini press and repeated the process for the red layer.
There is a slight offset to this design, meaning that you can see the two layers easily and adding to the authentic hand printed, mid century design style. This would make a great card for any leo (22nd July - 23rd August) to say happy birthday, or just to tell someone 'you're grrreat'! As this greetings card features a signed original print, it can be put in a frame and displayed as a keepsake by the recipient - giving it a much longer lease of life than an average greetings card.
