Description

Robin Wight of FantasyWire has always shared how he makes his fairies. He has now written a comprehensive instruction book “The Art of FantasyWire" which is designed to share the secrets behind the creation of the FantasyWire fairies.

It will walk you through: the properties and constraints of working with wire, the factors that influence a good design in art, how to make a wire skeleton/frame to support your sculpture, basic wire handling techniques, guidelines and insights to help you control proportions (the hardest part of any art) and what to do when you start to panic if you think its all going wrong!

Art is always portrayed as some form of mystery created by the talents given to a lucky few. But good art flows from good design. Design may also be a creative process, but its much easier to apply rules to design. Rules can be followed, and with the aid of some step-by-step design and wire techniques, most people who enjoy crafts should be able to enjoy designing and making their own wire fairy.

Whilst FantasyWire is best know for fairies and dandelions, the book aims to share the underlining principles of design and wire sculpture which could be applied to any sculptural subject. You don't have to be into fairies to benefit from the contents of this book.

If you are wanting to create your own wire sculpture then this book is a must have! The FantasyWire Advanced kit was designed to complement the book 'The Art of FantasyWire' and comes with all of the materials and tools needed to create your own wire sculpture. You can order the FantasyWire Advanced kit using the following link: https://www.etsy.com/uk/listing/630117221/fantasywire-advanced-kit-includes-the

“Fairies invoke thoughts of fantasy. They help you escape the real world for a moment and are generally associated with good things. Fairies are nice. I make wire fairies because I love the whole creative process of designing and build something nice an delicate from hard industrial materials.”

– Robin Wight

“There is no greater feeling of satisfaction than to stand back and say to yourself “I made that” and be proud of it. The technical term for it is “personal agency” and it’s sadly lacking in the modern world of vicarious living. It’s so rewarding as an artist to be able to share what I do and how I do it with the world.”

FAQs

All the products that we currently sell are available to buy now in our shop.

Unfortunately the full sized Fairy Sculptures aren't available through the shop! My father Robin Wight who actually creates the full size sculptures only has his spare to make them. When one ever is for sale we will announce it through social media :)
A KIT give you the chance to MAKE your OWN wire sculpture. It contains everything you need to have a go at making your own 8 inch wire fairy sculpture.

The starter kits contain:

-A preformed skeleton - so you don’t have to work out all the dimensions of limbs etc.

-3 types of wire - thick for building out the figure, thin for adding skin and detail and finally some thin springy wire for making wings. It contains more than enough wire so you don’t have to worry about running out.

-Pliers - for bending and cutting the wire.

- Detailed instructions - Taking you through each stage or the wire faire sculpting process stage by stage.

The resulting fairy figures stand about 8 inches high.
