Description

Bricked is a magazine made up of the art and poetry put forward by its willing contributors. Although fragmented and plural in perspective, each submission has been built into a room, making each copy a house. Every stage is an organ of a larger, balanced whole. Reading is a process of mutual digestion. Inspired by the mystic work of William Blake, BRICKED orients itself around combining word and image in order to create a more full reading experience.

The contributor list (in alphabetical order) for the first issue of BRICKED Zine features: Kia Yee Ang, Tobias Gumbrill, Jessica Kashdan Brown, Ella Krill, Oscar Lockey, Peter Page, Willow Orton, William Osborne, Harry Salisbury and Ellison Skinner.

In its conception, Bricked remembers itself together. Once divided into its subsidiary works, through assembly the magazine assumes a whole. Documents of experience bleed into eachother, and then melt into the monolith of the first person narrator. This transformative process allows for narrative union, a marriage of experience consummated by consistency and repeated patterns.

This magazine was printed in Millburn House, Warwick University. The cover and in-paper were made using 100% recycled card. Each copy is hand bound using waxed brown leather thread. Each copy has been hand-cut, folded and bound by the editor & owner of the shop, Peter Page.

Many months ago, the editor of what I hope is only the first of many installments of Bricked, asked me to contribute one of my paintings - an honour which I felt inadequate to receive. When the finished article dropped through my door (many days before it was estimated for delivery I might add - BrickedForever are extremely well organised!) I felt that my own work was poor company for the fantastically intricate and experimental writing and art provided by the other contributors. Bricked is an incredible achievement of poetry, prose, and illustration - deftly navigating complexity and absurdity with delicacy and grace. Each contribution can be read and seen in isolation, or as part of an expansive whole - testament to the skill of each contributor and the editor. If there are issues of Bricked still available, get one.
