Archangel Gabriel, large scale, original icon hand-painted in egg tempera, 24ct gold leaf set in antique white mount, unframed

This is a striking, large scale hand-painted icon of Archangel Gabriel, on 300 grams acid-free hot-pressed watercolour paper using egg tempera and red ochre pigment. The halo is gilded in 24 ct gold. This is an original artwork on archival quality paper which brings a wonderful presence when placed in a room. The antique white mount (matt) has been cut to the full size of this painting and the inner dimensions measure 55 x 37cm (22x 14.5inches); the overall outer dimensions are 70cm tall by 50cm wide (27.5 x 20inches). There are some slight undulations at the lower edge of the paper from the paper stretching process - this is an original, not a print!

The study is based on the Annunciation of Ustyug, an icon created in Novgorod in the 12th century.
