Keep Your Family Well Fed by Making Your Own Inspirational Recipe Journal

As a parent who believes it is important to create healthy meals for a hungry family and who also wants to spend time helping them with their sports and homework, I needed a journal that would help me provide good food for my family, as well as time for other things.

Many years ago I desperately wanted to spend more time with my young family and less time shopping and cooking and STILL provide them with healthy meals on a low budget. It seemed impossible until I learned how and then it became much easier than I ever imagined. I got rid of those huge cook books full of recipes I never used and built my own recipe journal with my family’s favorites. And you can now do the same AND with 10% off for the New Year.

My grandmother, who was born in Victorian times, was sent to work at “The Big House” to learn to be a lady’s maid but she could never control her tongue and didn’t like brushing the (long) hair of the girls of the house, so she was sent to be the kitchen maid - a lowly job. But she graduated from there and went to work in the kitchen of a local hostelry where she learned a lot of local recipes. As children we enjoyed the fruits of her labours, with many tasty, economical recipes that she had learned over the years. But her recipes took hours of work in the kitchen and nowadays we don’t all have time for that, so I created my own versions of her recipes, using a slow cooker, which doesn’t need constant watching. I wanted to keep these in my own cookery book but there was no such thing in those days, so I created my first recipe journal to save them. That was quite some time ago and my journal creating skills have developed a bit since then.

I have spent most of my life trying to find out how to learn and do things faster, better and more easily and also to motivate myself to do those things that are necessary (like study and cooking) but that get in the way of doing more interesting stuff, like reading! One of the most important ways I have found for motivation is to be passionate about something. Being passionate about feeding my family healthy meals led to creating a personal cookbook of recipes and a journal on making this easier, by doubling up the recipe, bulk cooking, saving easy recipes for difficult days, etc. I have also learned a lot about creating pages, flyers and booklets over the years and have now put these skills together to create a journal that will help you:

● keep your family’s favorite meals and recipes close at hand;
● find new recipes;
● work out your weekly menu so less is wasted, saving you money; and,
● plan for the month ahead in case there are big time commitments coming up.

The journal has been tested out over a number of years in my kitchen, as have the techniques for getting food ready ahead of time or creating time for other activities.
The journal includes a template for you to write in your own recipes, one for recipes from others, a notes page so you can cut out a recipe and have somewhere to paste it, a weekly menu planning page, 7 monthly planning pages (because the day that a month starts on changes) plus an index and pages for keeping a record of holiday recipes and family favorites.
You can print out the journal or individual pages as often as you like (for your own use) or even create your own journal, with your own special recipes, as a GIFT for a friend or new bride (NOT for selling).

This journal is A4 in size, (210 × 297 millimeters or 8.27 × 11.69 inches) delivered as an instant download, together with the bonus download, which is a 7 page shopping list that you can use over and over, either or both as part of the recipe journal, to remind you of standard items you need plus special ones for holiday times, or as a shopping list to take with you. Plus, there is another bonus - a copy of my own original recipe booklet with recipes I use all the time, including for the slow cooker. If you have never used a slow cooker, think about getting one, they are one of the most useful items ever for a busy person!

Do you want to keep on struggling to put a healthy meal on the table every day?
Do you want to keep rushing out to the shop every night to get food for a brown bag meal for the next day?
Do you want to spend money you can’t afford in expensive take-aways for food you don’t really like?
Do you want to keep blowing your food budget over and over?
Do you get tired of trying to juggle healthy food preparation with everything else?
Are you fed up of missing special occasions because you didn’t plan for food?

If I know we are going to be outside all day, I plan ahead on the monthly food calendar (included in the journal pack) to take healthy food we can all eat, like hot soup or risotto in a vacuum flask, or sandwiches and hot cocoa, to keep us fed and active, without having to pay for expensive eating places.

One way I produce a quick, easy, healthy meal for a busy night is to cook double for one of my meals and freeze it ahead of time, ready for the busy night. One of the recipe links I have included in the journal is for meatballs that freeze well and can quickly be reheated. I have also included a bonus PDF of my own original, tried and tested recipes with this journal including some slow cooker (crockpot) recipes so you can find and try new favorites that can save you time. (Note: this is my own recipe book, it was not produced for sale.)

Instead of buying another cookbook with hundreds of recipes you’ll never use, you can now create your own priceless recipe book of food your family love AND find yourself more time to spend with them. You will be able to add your own recipes and find new favorites from carefully selected (free) sources online plus those in my own favorite recipe book, gathered over 40 years, that is included as a free bonus. Never again spend precious time looking for that “perfect” recipe that would take just minutes to make if only you remembered where it was AND had the ingredients. Never again find yourself rushing out to the 24-hour shop for take-out food for a school trip or phoning for pizza when you swore, “no more take-away food”! Your family could be eating better than in a 5 star restaurant with what you have in your own recipe journal, even on busy evenings or sports outings. And for far less than the price of a dinner in a fast-serve, you could have your own heirloom journal of family-favorite recipes to hand down.

This journal (and the bonuses) come as an instant A4 download that you can print out straight away to use as you wish. High resolution, so looks great when you print it out. There are so many ways to create your own version of this recipe journal. You can print it out and staple it at one corner, as I did for my daughter when piloting it. You can put each individual page into a "pocket" to keep it clean (or even two, back to back), then tie the pockets together to form a booklet that can be taken apart when necessary to add new pages and recipes. I have laminated some of my recipes and had them bound, either wire binding or comb binding. Alternatively, you could trim the pages and stick them into a hard cover journal. With a printable download, you can print the pages you need most over and over again for personal use. No need to worry about needing more pages or making a mistake!
