⏩ Story of this Pattern ⏪
I’m about to depart on holiday and suddenly realize I don’t have the right bag - I need something for long walks in the forest, shopping in the market, dinner at a nice restaurant, and every kind of sightseeing. To the sewing machine I go!
⏩ Details ⏪
The perfect all-in-one bag! As told in the story above, this bag was born to do it all - it is easily convertible from a shoulder bag to a backpack to a crossbody bag - no readjusting strap length or fiddling with hardware, just unhook and rehook. You can use the strap pattern provided, or follow the tutorial to customize the strap length for your body shape and wearing preferences.
Plenty of pockets make it easy to organize everything inside the bag. There are three main compartments inside, one of which is perfect for a tablet or small laptop. An internal zippered pocket keeps your wallet or valuables extra safe. A key chain means your keys won’t get buried at the bottom of your bag, and a pen pocket keeps your writing utensils close at hand.

⏩ Difficulty⏪
Upper-Intermediate. This pattern assumes the sewer is familiar with techniques used in bag-making, such as sewing straight and curved seams, interfacing, and sewing zippers and other hardware. The pattern is written in both metric and imperial units.
⏩ Sizing ⏪
The finished bag measures 30 cm / 12” wide by 35 cm / 14” tall by 10 cm / 4” deep. The straps are approximately 95 cm / 37” as a cross-body bag, 75 cm / 30” as a backpack, and 43 cm / 17” as a shoulder bag (or, the instructions include how to calculate a strap length which is tailored for your body and bag-wearing preferences).
⏩ Fabrics and Notions ⏪
This pattern requires three fabrics. For the main body of the bag choose a beautiful woven fabric of medium- to heavy-weight. Quilting cotton, denim, linen, home decor fabrics, canvas, or upholstery fabrics will all work wonderfully. You will need 45 cm / 18” of 150 cm / 60” wide fabric.
For the base of the bag and the straps you need a sturdy fabric - something like faux leather is ideal. Other options are real leather, vinyl, heavier canvas or upholstery fabrics, or else lighter fabrics interfaced with a stiff interfacing. You will need 48 cm / 19” of 150 cm / 60” wide fabric.
For the lining of the bag you need a medium-weight cotton. A light color with a busy pattern is best - the light color will brighten the inside of the bag, and the pattern will hide any stains or spots! You will need 80 cm / 32” of 150 cm / 60” wide fabric.
You will need the following hardware:
5 d-rings with an internal diameter of 4 cm / 1.5”
2 d-rings with an internal diameter of 2.5 cm / 1” (can be slightly bigger or smaller, no problem)
2 lobster clasps with an internal diameter of 4 cm / 1.5” (they need to be able to hook onto both the larger and smaller d-rings)
1 lobster clasp with an internal diameter of 1.3 cm / 0.5” (also can be slightly bigger or smaller)
1 zipper 45 cm / 18” or longer, for the top of the bag (so in a color matching the main bag fabric)
1 zipper 32 cm / 12.5” or longer (in a color matching the lining fabric)
1 zipper 13 cm / 5” or longer (in a color matching the lining fabric)
about 15 cm / 6” of narrow elastic (½ cm or ¼”) or elastic thread for the interior pocket
