If you need a study buddy or a little motivation to get through the working day, then this is the project for you. Meet my most legendary mythical creature to date, the Loch Ness (Desk) Monster!

Nessie is knitted using two balls of DK yarn, I’ve recommended Stylecraft Life DK in Mint as it’s the perfect colour. She can be knitted on straight needles or in the round, the pattern includes the instructions for both.

See all the materials you need in the second image or the full list below. This is shown alongside part of the pattern, which gives you an idea of how it’s written. I have recommended using Stylecraft Life DK yarn, but you can use any DK yarn that achieves the same tension of 22st x 30 rows = 10cm (4in) on 4mm (US 6) needles.

This knitting kit won't teach you how to knit, but my new book First Time Knits can take you from beginner to knitter in nine fun (and cute) projects - https://www.sincerelylouise.co.uk/products/pre-order-first-time-knits

FINISHED SIZE: Head: 40cm x 9cm (16in x 3 ½in), Body (arched): 25cm x 9cm (10in x 3 ½ in), Tail: 30cm x 9cm (12cm x 3 ½ in)

RECOMMENDED MATERIALS
Stylecraft Life DK yarn - 25% wool, 75% acrylic - 298m per 100g
- M (main colour) - Mint - 2x 100g balls
- Black DK yarn for embroidery
- 4mm (US 6) straight knitting needles, or 4mm circular needle if you’d prefer knitting in the round
- 2 x 10mm black safety toy eyes with washers
- An old pair of tights
- A 3.5cm (1 1/2in) pompom maker. Alternatively you can make your own pom-poms using your hands or some cardboard, and here are videos on YouTube about how to do this.
- 6 small plastic bags
- 1kg of chinchilla sand. This is used to weigh down the pieces of your Loch Ness Monster. You can find this at your local pet store, as it is a type of sand used as bathing dust for chinchillas. If you were using regular sand, it could get damp.

SKILL LEVEL: Perfect for beginners that know the basics of knitting and sewing up.

STITCHES USED: Knit, Purl, Increasing (Kfb), Decreasing (K2tog and SKP), Intarsia colour changing, mattress stitch for sewing up.

This pattern is so good 😍 Really well written and easy to understand. It was so much fun to make that I’m going to try and make a second smaller Loch Ness monster too ✨
