The Thoth Tarot Card Deck was designed by Aleister Crowley and painted by Lady Frieda Harris.

An early victim of mainstream media, Aleister Crowley at the time of his death in 1947 was slated by the English press as the “wickedest man on Earth.” How short-sighted were they, to judge a man whose life’s work involved an endless search of spiritual attainment for not just himself but for all of humanity.

His “Scientific Illuminism” was offered as a system free of cultural biases, as he pulled the simple essential truths from a variety of the world's religions to reveal that the nature of truth is one.

While Lady Frieda Harris worked tirelessly under Crowley’s guidance to produce each individual painting as a masterpiece in its own right, The Thoth deck remained unpublished during their lifetimes. First published in 1969, seven years after the death of Harris, a faithful reproduction of the original paintings didn’t appear until 1977.

The present deck, which was produced using advanced printing techniques, includes illustrations more faithful to the original paintings and incorporates Crowley’s interpretation of tarot symbols. It’s difficult to imagine a tarot deck that incorporates more intricate symbolic imagery and layers of meaning in such beautiful paintings as the Thoth Tarot.
