Vintage from the 1970s

Black glossy finish, Original Habitat sticker, Flock base

A collectable vintage elephant money box/piggy bank. This famous shape is also known as 'Drumbo'. The design is attributed to Luigi Colani for the Dresdner Bank in Germany in the 1960s or 1970s, and this ceramic version was produced in India for Habitat (UK designer homewares store) at a similar time (circa 1970s vintage). I have also seen this design as 'designed by Bernd Diefenbach in 1972'. I guess the true designer is unconfirmed.

Glossy black china/ceramic in the distinctive Drumbo shape with top slot for money. Designed for kids' savings, it is sealed closed with no way of opening, so has to be broken to empty - meaning this has never been used (it's empty).

A good size - 10.5cm tall x 15cm long x 7.5cm wide. Excellent condition, no chips or crazing or cracks. Some natural flaws in the glossy black glaze. It came with its original sticker to the base which reads: 'Made in India for Habitat 952285', the sticker is loose. Original black 'flock' type base shows a few signs of age/era, but all intact.

Suitable for display in a kids' bedroom or as a collectable with other Drumbos, or just as a iconic minimalist ornament. A hard to find item.

Includes P&P to the UK.

This seller usually responds within a few hours.

Items weighing under 2kg total will be posted by 2nd class Royal Mail. If it's a high value item I'll add Signed For. Items weighing over 2kg will be posted by Hermes, and if they are high value I'll add Signed For. I may not be able to post to some areas of the UK, such as the Channel Islands, but I'll give it a good go! I'll try to post within 24 hours (when Post Office opening hours allow).
All postage abroad will be by Royal Mail's International Tracked and Signed service, so will need signing for your end. Please say if you'd prefer just a Tracked service instead. I can't post anything that weighs over 2kg or is larger than a 'small parcel'.
I have specially chosen these items to be of superior quality and condition for their age and era. All my items are vintage (25+ years old) and may naturally have some wear and tear which may not be in the description. I have written everything to the best of my ability, and tried to describe any obvious flaws. The photos also help to show the condition - please view all photos and read the descriptions.
For lower value items I'm happy for you to provide the address and unique code for a UK onward mailing company, but I cannot accept responsibility for any damage or non-delivery beyond the mailing company's address. Once the UK mailing company has safely received the parcel it is no longer my responsibility.
Why buy new? Buy vintage, and help protect the planet. You're rescuing vintage pieces for future generations. Also, please don't bin my packaging - save, re-use and recycle. Thank you.
I use large bubble bubble-wrap with strengthening card and sturdy cardboard boxes. I often double box for safety and I re-use old newspapers to fill any gaps. I have been selling on Etsy for over five years and know and trust my packing. Jewellery is posted in small sturdy cardboard jewellery boxes, in a mailing bag. (Please re-use or recycle any packaging!)
UK free postage is factored into all my prices... I think UK customers like to see an upfront price including postage with no hidden surprises. Sorry I can't offer free post worldwide.
