A tutorial for my Squidy Pendant, Brooch or Ornament. Squidy is my youngest son's favourite cuddly toy, and he inspired this bead embroidered piece.

It uses a variety of bead embroidery, beadweaving and goldwork embroidery techniques, including back stitch, bezelling using circular peyote, seeding, right angle weave bezelling, goldwork and beaded edging to make a statement pendant, brooch or even a beautiful ornament. Will suit intermediate bead weavers or bead embroiderers, or experienced embroiderers looking to learn some beadweaving techniques.

The twenty four page tutorial contains a full materials list, with suggestions for suppliers, and every step is fully illustrated with a detailed diagram showing thread paths etc, photos to show you what you are aiming for and every step is also written out clearly (in English). All of the different techniques used are covered in full, with tips as well as stepped out instructions, and you should finish this piece ready to use the technqiues in your own designs.

Please note that this listing is for a PDF tutorial, not a finished piece of beadwork, and not a kit - just the instructions. The tutorial will available through Etsy for you to download as a PDF as soon as possible after Etsy detects a cleared payment.

The finished body of the pendant is 9.5cm long and 4cm wide, the tentacles can be as long as you like underneath that.

You will need:
An oval domed, flat backed semi precious Cabochon roughly 25x50mm.
2 8mm Swarovski or Preciosa Chatons (ss39)
Size 15 and 11 seed beads in 3-4 toning colours, size 8 seed beads in 2 toning colours (around 1g of each).
Goldwork wires - 50cm Pearl Purl (1.1mm or 1.4mm, or a 20/30cm split), and 20cm Bright Check Purl (or Smooth or Rough Purl)
125cm Hand dyed silk ribbon or threads for the tentacles. I use 25cm in each of at least 5 colours (or 125cm total).
Bead backing in a colour to tone with your beads - Nicole's Bead Backing or similar.
Backing material - Ultrasuede or similar.
Strong Glue - I use E6000
Beadweaving needles, thread of your choice (but not Fireline or equivalent - they are awful for embroidery, way too stiff and you’ll want to match colours), optional sewing thread, sharp scissors, and sacrificial non-precious scissors for the wires.

Exact requirements (number/weight of beads) are given on my website here - theindecisivebeader.com/requirements-for-my-tutorials/

Squidy is part of a family of sea creatures shown in the last photo, who also include the slightly easier 'Jelly' tutorial which you can find here - https://www.etsy.com/uk/listing/1039126422/tutorial-jelly-pendant-bead-embroidery

As a beader who designs and sells largely to support my own out of control bead buying habit, you may make from my tutorials to sell (in small quantities only) so you can buy lots more beads (and tutorials), but please ensure you give me full credit as designer.
Please do respect my rights as a designer and do not pass finished pieces off as your own design, teach the design, or reproduce this tutorial or the images in it in any way. Please see my FAQs for further details. Thank you!

Very detailed and easily followed pattern. Takes a step beyond the usual bead embroidery with cabochon project into beginning goldwork. Will post my take on this once I have completed it.

Shipping was quick and precise. I've only read the tutorial and it seems very well written. I will be posting a picture upon completion!

I can’t download the pattern I bought because there is nothing to click on for instant download. It keeps asking me to buy the pattern again and I have already paid $11.10 for something I don’t have!!!!!! I have contacted the seller telling her the problem and she keeps referring to the way to download a pattern! This isn’t my first time to purchase a pattern but it might be my last!!!!!
