TUTORIAL Squidy Pendant Bead Embroidery Tutorial INSTANT DOWNLOAD

A tutorial for my Squidy Pendant, Brooch or Ornament. Squidy is my youngest son's favourite cuddly toy, and he inspired this bead embroidered piece.

It uses a variety of bead embroidery, beadweaving and goldwork embroidery techniques, including back stitch, bezelling using circular peyote, seeding, right angle weave bezelling, goldwork and beaded edging to make a statement pendant, brooch or even a beautiful ornament. Will suit intermediate bead weavers or bead embroiderers, or experienced embroiderers looking to learn some beadweaving techniques.

The twenty four page tutorial contains a full materials list, with suggestions for suppliers, and every step is fully illustrated with a detailed diagram showing thread paths etc, photos to show you what you are aiming for and every step is also written out clearly (in English). All of the different techniques used are covered in full, with tips as well as stepped out instructions, and you should finish this piece ready to use the technqiues in your own designs.

The finished body of the pendant is 9.5cm long and 4cm wide, the tentacles can be as long as you like underneath that.

You will need:
An oval domed, flat backed semi precious Cabochon roughly 25x50mm.
2 8mm Swarovski or Preciosa Chatons (ss39)
Size 15 and 11 seed beads in 3-4 toning colours, size 8 seed beads in 2 toning colours (around 1g of each).
Goldwork wires - 50cm Pearl Purl (1.1mm or 1.4mm, or a 20/30cm split), and 20cm Bright Check Purl (or Smooth or Rough Purl)
125cm Hand dyed silk ribbon or threads for the tentacles. I use 25cm in each of at least 5 colours (or 125cm total).
Bead backing in a colour to tone with your beads - Nicole's Bead Backing or similar.
Backing material - Ultrasuede or similar.
Strong Glue - I use E6000
Beadweaving needles, thread of your choice (but not Fireline or equivalent - they are awful for embroidery, way too stiff and you’ll want to match colours), optional sewing thread, sharp scissors, and sacrificial non-precious scissors for the wires.
