Vintage from the 1970s

Red clay, Liquid glazes, Green and black glazes

Height: 40 Centimetres

A huge 1970s Canadian tall stretching stylised bird figurine. Its by Blue Mountain Pottery - they specialised in retro animal figurines, mostly sold as tourist ware, with their distinctive liquid glazes.

Red clay base with a unique, trademarked glazing process known as 'reflowing decorating'. Two different liquid glazes, one light and one dark in colour, were applied. During the firing process the glazes would run, creating streaking patterns unique to each piece. This piece has the green and black glazes, though the colour looks more blue/green or jade.

The bird is a typical mid century styled simplified stretching bird, I'm unsure as what breed of bird it is. He may even be a swan.

He's very tall - 16" or 40cm, and in great condition with no chips. It's amazing that he has remained intact and in such great condition for 40+ years old. With Blue Mountain Pottery there are deliberate runs and patches in the glaze, all part of the appeal and all as intended - see close up photo. He's missing glaze off the top of his beak. No chips or cracks - he's a really good tall and statement example. Perfect for a mid-century inspired interior, on a teak sideboard or shelf.

Items weighing under 2kg total will be posted by 2nd class Royal Mail. If it's a high value item I'll add Signed For. Items weighing over 2kg will be posted by Hermes, and if they are high value I'll add Signed For. I may not be able to post to some areas of the UK, such as the Channel Islands, but I'll give it a good go! I'll try to post within 24 hours (when Post Office opening hours allow).
All postage abroad will be by Royal Mail's International Tracked and Signed service, so will need signing for your end. Please say if you'd prefer just a Tracked service instead. I can't post anything that weighs over 2kg or is larger than a 'small parcel'.
I have specially chosen these items to be of superior quality and condition for their age and era. All my items are vintage (25+ years old) and may naturally have some wear and tear which may not be in the description. I have written everything to the best of my ability, and tried to describe any obvious flaws. The photos also help to show the condition - please view all photos and read the descriptions.
For lower value items I'm happy for you to provide the address and unique code for a UK onward mailing company, but I cannot accept responsibility for any damage or non-delivery beyond the mailing company's address. Once the UK mailing company has safely received the parcel it is no longer my responsibility.
Why buy new? Buy vintage, and help protect the planet. You're rescuing vintage pieces for future generations. Also, please don't bin my packaging - save, re-use and recycle. Thank you.
I use large bubble bubble-wrap with strengthening card and sturdy cardboard boxes. I often double box for safety and I re-use old newspapers to fill any gaps. I have been selling on Etsy for over five years and know and trust my packing. Jewellery is posted in small sturdy cardboard jewellery boxes, in a mailing bag. (Please re-use or recycle any packaging!)
UK free postage is factored into all my prices... I think UK customers like to see an upfront price including postage with no hidden surprises. Sorry I can't offer free post worldwide.
