'A Chantar' focuses on the songs of the troubadours and the trouvères, and for each song we provide the tune in accessible modern notation, the full words of the original song, and an English translation of those words.
There is a short introduction giving something of the historical context for these songs, their different genres, and some specific issues in their performance. There is also a pronunciation guide for occitan and medieval French.

Ideal for those who want to approach the music of troubadours and troubadours. The authors accompany the music with the original lyrics and the English translation and offer a pronunciation guide of medieval French and the Occitan language. The authors also offer useful guidance and information about context, notation and performance practice. Highly recommended!

Fascinating music, and the history associated with it. Lovely little book. Thanks.I play bassoon, but at 73 yo I'm a bit old to think of taking up an early instrument, but I am. This music has a powerful attraction.
