Item details

Vintage from the 1930s

Celluloid brooch and earrings set of gentian violets, an alpine flower. Circa 1930s, these were often sold as souvenirs for holiday makers to the Alps in Austria or Switzerland. They made from moulded celluloid (an early plastic) which has been painted. They are a gorgeous deep blue, with green leaves. The brooch has a white and yellow centre.

The earrings are clip-ons, and the brooch fastens with a simple C clasp. The brooch is approx 1.75 inches long, and the earrings just under 1 inch.

Very good condition: the paint has rubbed off on some of the edges, especially on the brooch, but the effect is not unattractive. See photos. Clasp and earring clips all working well.
