The Gift of Frankincense - Beaded Blackwork Embroidery Chart

In The Gift of Frankincense, scrolling lines depict the flow of clouds of bittersweet incense, carrying prayers up to heaven. At the centre of the design is a kind of labyrinth, symbolic of a spiritual journey.

This stand-alone chart is the seventh in a series of twelve elegant beaded blackwork ornament designs in the Elizabethan Christmas Series. It can be made up into a needlecase, or combined with others to make a stunning table runner or beaded blackwork shawl or afghan.

The design measures 78 x 78 stitches and can be worked on evenweave or block fabric.
Choose your own threads - both cotton and silk thread options are suggested in the chart.

On 14 count over one or 28 count over two, with a six unit border, this measures: c. 16.5 cm (6.5 inches) square.
On 16 count over one or 32 count over two, with a six unit border, this measures: c. 14.3 cm (5.7 inches) square.
On 18 count over one or 36 count over two, with a six unit border, this measures: c. 12.7 cm (5 inches) square.

Materials used involve 1 strand of pearl thread (black), 1 strand of fine thread (black) and gold beads.
Attach the beads using a matching colour of sewing cotton or silk.

Stitches used: Cross Stitch, Straight Line Stitches of your choice (Running, Running Back, Back, Double Running)
