The Baobab Tree, also known as the Monkey Bread Tree, Dead Rat Tree and Upside Down Tree, is native to AFrica’s hot dry Savannah and can also be found in Madagascar and Australia. The three can reach 82ft tall in nature with the trunk impressively growing up to 46ft wide.
The trunk retains an impressive amount of water, more than 1,000 gallons has been extracted from a single tree before. When the tree has lost all its leaves in winter, the branches look like roots; it looks like it was planted upside down, hence its nickname (Upside Down Tree). In March, when the temperature increases, the leaves will reappear.

Three seeds sprouted within 3 days of stratification being finished. Note: i used a rasp to file off the black hard shell JUST until i saw the white of the seed peek thru, then wrapped in a warm wet cloth, put in a closed tupperware over heat, in the dark and in three days all three had about a qtr to a half inch plant poking out growing agressively! I have now planted in about a half inch of compost and sand mixture and am just barely keeping the soil wet. Uncovered the seedly for this picture, but they still appear to be doing GREAT!!! Finally got around to germinating these seeds months after receiving the them, and within 2 weeks 3/10 of them have already sprouted !! Knowing only 1/3 seeds tend to germinate at all this is a very good success. Definitely follow the soaking and sanding instructions you see online, I’m sure it helped with my process. Thank you!
