Siskins are a bird I hadn't seen in the UK till I visited the New forest one autumn.
These bright yellow birds, looked like canaries in a forest!
The next time I saw them was in Snowdon national park, where we managed to get a great photograph of one, which is what this print is based on. So happy holiday memories are now linked forever with this bird.
What I love about drawing birds is the detail in the feathers, and I have tried to capture that with this print.
The Siskin is mostly yellow and black , this monochrome print brings out the bold black of the banding on the back of them.
The Japanese paper is gently off white and delicate, almost tissue paper thin, but still very strong. Not unlike birds themselves.
This original artwork has been entirely hand made. I drew and carved the lino block by hand, then inked and printed onto quality Japanese paper, using light fast inks.
I will only print 20 of this black version.
