Named in recognition of the pioneer Marie Curie. This series of sock yarn colour ways on the Sock Noir base are named after feisty women who were courageous and broke new ground, bringing about change that benefited many people, men and women. It reflects the feisty nature of the colour ways produced on this base AND that they make really good socks for the boys and men in your life as well as socks or shawls for you.

Base: Sock Noir: 80% Corriedale and Polwarth wool, 20% black nylon. Superwash treated in Yorkshire, UK to the highest environmental and safety standards. Beautifully soft and plump.

Sock Noir is a new sock yarn base that is grey in its undyed state. The wool within the yarn is white and the grey colour comes from the black nylon fibre blended into the wool top before spinning. It dyes up beautifully and with interesting and unusual effects.

All of my bases are ethically produced. My supplier visits the farms where the flocks of sheep graze whether in the UK mainland or in the British Falkland Islands. He knows the farmers personally and the sheep graze freely in their environment. The fleece are sorted, cleaned and supplied to UK mills for high quality worsted spinning. If the yarn is superwash, it has been treated in the UK, by a company in Yorkshire who use processes that are carried out to have as little impact on the environment as possible. They also ensure the highest safety for their workers.

100g skeins with approx 400 metres of yarn. Perfect for a pair of socks or a small shawl. You will need two skeins for a larger shawl and three for a whacking great shawl :)

Dyed in small batches using professional acid milling dyes. The dyes are fully exhausted in the dye bath then the skeins are washed and rinsed until no colour remains in the rinsing water. However, to keep the colours looking as fresh as possible, hand wash your finished item in lukewarm water using a mild wool wash product with a slightly acid pH. Do not soak. A slight amount of colour bleed may occur in the first few washes so always wash separately.

Even when a colourway is repeated, and even when dyed in the same batch variations may occur so alternating skeins for big projects is advisable.

Wonderful. 3 months worth of beautiful soft yarn, each one being a surprise in colour. They have been quite different each month, but all beautiful and will have a special project or 2 made with them. And it was lovely to have Nov and Dec delivered together (I have no willpower so opened them both today). And although December's one is themed, it's not only for Christmas!! It'll be beautiful all year. Thank you 😍

Love it! As this is a club I will not say the colours as I not want to spoil anyone else’s surprise but it is lovely, so well co-ordinated. I am looking forward to next month.
